The site at Pyrford was pan flat and the dirt was mostly fine gravel. There was also a high water table which eliminated the need to line the lakes. The course was very cost effective to construct as were the lakes. Typical of European golf the course is fast running and therefore many of the greens are open-fronted so that players have the option of running the ball onto the greens.
